BC Rugby is delighted to announce the return of the BC Senior Women’s Blue vs. Gold Series for 2027 in partnership with Rugby Canada’s Senior Women’s National XVs Program.

Thanks to funding from Rugby Canada’s Senior Women’s High-Performance Program and direction from National XVs Head Coach, Kevin Rouet, the BC Senior Women’s Blue vs. Gold Series will see the Island Blues take on the Mainland Golds in an exciting four-match Series throughout Spring 2027.

The fourth edition of the Series reflects the continued development of a key initiative in the BC Senior Women’s high-performance pathway. With national high-performance funding introduced for the first time in 2027, alongside investment from BC Rugby for the fourth successive year, the Series builds on three previous editions that have helped establish its foundation within the national pathway.

The 2027 Series features two matches on Vancouver Island and two matches in the Lower Mainland, including an “Under the Lights” match at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver. The 2027 BC Blue vs. Gold Women’s Series Schedule is as follows:

  • Game 1 – Sunday, January 17, 2027 – John Oliver Field, Delta – 1:00pm PST
  • Game 2 – Saturday, February 13, 2027 – Wallace Field, UVIC – 1:00pm TBC
  • Game 3 – Friday, March 5, 2027 – Thunderbird Stadium, UBC – 5:30pm PST
  • Game 4 – Saturday, March 27, 2027 – Wallace Field, UVIC – 1:00pm TBC

The Mainland Gold team will be led by Head Coach, Dean Murten, who steered the Gold team to a 2026 Series victory over the Blues and Alberta Wolfpack. Murten will be assisted by Julia Sugawara and Jocelyn Muller.

Brittany Waters is named as Island Blues Head Coach, assisted by recently retired Canadian National Team star Tyson Beukeboom and 2026 Blues Head Coach Olly Winser.

Island Blues Head Coach, Brittany Waters, said: “The BC Blue vs. Gold Series provides our top senior athletes with the opportunity to compete at a higher level, push each other to new standards, and showcase their ability in a high-performance environment. It’s a critical step in their development, giving athletes the challenge and experience needed to prepare for the demands of representing their country. The goal is to raise the level of rugby in BC and build the next generation of national team athletes.”

Mainland Gold Head Coach, Dean Murten, said: “It is exciting to see the four-game schedule for the Blue vs. Gold competition. The province is home to very talented athletes who need to be challenged against the best. This is an excellent opportunity for athletes to demonstrate their abilities to the national coach. Thank you to BC Rugby and Rugby Canada for supporting a vital part of the pathway.”

Further details including livestream information will be released early 2027.
