The BC Summer Games are British Columbia’s biennial celebration of sport and community. Since 1978, the BC Games (Summer & Winter) have taken place in 38 communities and involved over 350,000 participants and volunteers and thousands more as spectators and supporters. The purpose of the BC Games is “To provide an opportunity for the development of athletes, coaches, and officials in preparation for higher levels of competition in a multi-sport event which promotes interest and participation in sport and sporting activities, individual achievement and community development.”
The BC Games bring together British Columbia’s best emerging high-performance athletes, trained coaches, and certified officials for four days of competition. This experience is an important development opportunity and stepping stone towards higher level sports competitions.
Maple Ridge 2020
The BC Games Society has announced that the 2020 BC Summer Games will take place in Maple Ridge. Up to 2808 athletes, 543 coaches, and 373 officials representing 18 sports will gather in the Fraser Valley for four days of celebration and competition, July 23-26, 2020. Rugby Sevens will once again be part of the action, showcasing some of the best young female talent from across the province.
“2018 was a huge success for girls rugby in the BC Summer Games. For the second year in a row we were able to field a team in all eight zones and the event continues to contribute to the growth of rugby throughout all of BC,” said Darcy Patterson, Development Officer for BC Rugby. “We are excited to have this opportunity once again in 2020 and will look forward to the lasting effects of the Games on the growth of sevens rugby in BC.”
