Interview and Player Profile: Abbotsford RFC and Canada U18’s Josiah Levale
Levale was named one of four recipients of BC Rugby’s inaugural Representative Player Bursary in September
Vancouver, BC – October 24, 2019: Josiah Levale is the last in our series of player profiles on the four recipients of BC Rugby’s Representative Player Bursary. We spoke to Josiah earlier this week about his family’s history in Canadian rugby sevens, the story of his rugby career and his path forward.
“It really means a lot to me,” Levale said of the Bursary. “I know there’s a lot of opportunities to represent Canada and BC and to play overseas this year. The bursary will help me develop as a player and prepare me for the next level. Playing rugby at a high level is not cheap, and the bursary will help expand my opportunities to play in the future.”
Levale came through the mini rugby program in BC before being selected to a BC U15 XVs rep team in 2017. In 2018 Levale was selected for BC’s U18 7s team while still eligible for U16s, and he recieved a call-up to the Canadian national U18 sevens team earlier this year.
“I was really excited when I found out that I was selected (to the Canada U18 team). I had always imagined wearing the leaf on my chest, running out onto the field, so it was just a really awesome experience to have. All the work that I put in training hard all the time, all the work that my family put in taking me to practice, it’s just great to see that pay off.”
