October 16, 2020 (Vancouver, BC) – BC Rugby have confirmed a positive COVID-19 test involving a rugby club member in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. Protocols from the club’s sanctioned COVID Safety Plan have been actioned including communication to other club members who participated in the same rugby group as the confirmed individual. This tracing was completed quickly due to the diligent registration and attendance systems implemented as part of return to play protocols. The club has suspended all rugby activities for the group that the confirmed individual was a member of for a minimum of 2 weeks in accordance with BC Rugby’s return to play policies. There is no indication the individual contracted the virus within rugby activities.
This is the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in BC Rugby’s membership since the Return to Rugby in BC plan officially progressed to the Rugby Restart phase on September 1st. Over 3,400 players have registered with over 30 clubs that have received sanctioning of their COVID Safety Plans.

This is a reminder to all in the rugby community to continue to exercise caution and strictly follow approved Return to Play plans so that we can all continue to enjoy our sport.
