The squad continues preparation for Las Vegas and Vancouver Sevens Invitationals
Abbotsford, BC – February 11, 2019: The BC Rugby Elite Youth Sevens Boys’ Program were busy once again last weekend in preparation for their upcoming tournament in Las Vegas. Head Coach Adam Roberts provided this summary of the weekend’s activity.
“What a fantastic weekend. George P. Lappenbush coined the phrase progressive flexible adjustment, that was the motto leading into the weekend. We made to make adjustments and training indoors is never the same… Listening to the Coaches and players everyone was able to get a lot out of the sessions and made the most of the situation… Yale Secondary played host to a myriad of stations which made the indoor sessions very useful and beneficial.
In total 72 players and 10 staff from around the Province came together in preparation for the Las Vegas Invitational. The teams looked primed to have a great showing at the big event in on Feb 28 – March 2, just three weeks away!
Nathan Holm of Collingwood Secondary lit up the weekend with an impressive 15.5 Beep test. The future is bright with many young stars in the making. A young Tom Morrisey of Shawnigan Lake had a great showing in the creative drills. Ethan Turner out of Thomas Haney Secondary has the poise and maturity complete with a very good skill set.
A big thank you to Greg Byron for his Abbotsford expertise and help organizing as well as to the medical staff for getting all the Baseline testing done. To Neil Macdonald for his wizardry on the computer and data entry and the coaches for the commitment and dedication to this endeavour. Special Shout out to Hanno Fourie that was almost in Horseshoe Bay on the ferry until he was turned around and made the effort to FLY over! And to all the players for taking the time and financial responsibility to make this work.
I very much appreciate the steps the program has taken this year. We are ready to ROCK Las Vegas.”
The BC Rugby Elite Youth Rugby Program will be sending boys’ and girls’ teams to the Las Vegas Invitational at the end of this month, as well as the Vancouver Sevens Invitational on March 7-8. A Press release will be made next week announcing the official teams for Las Vegas.
