The U19 and U16 Boys’ Division titles will be settled this weekend on Vancouver Island
Vancouver, BC – November 27, 2018: Teams have been confirmed for the 2018 BC Rugby Junior Boys’ Club Finals, set to take place at James Bay AA’s MacDonald Park in Victoria. The games will decide the titles for the U6 and U19 Divisions and kick off at 12:30 and 14:00 respectively.
The U19 Division will be contested between Castaway Wanderers RFC and UBCOB Ravens RFC, an exciting prospect for enthusiasts of youth rugby. Castaway Wanderers will be looking to repeat their performance from a year ago when they captured the 2017 title with a convincing win over Bayside Sharks RFC. The Island team have been in imperious form this Fall, losing just a single game at the start of the season and conceding just 59 points over seven matches in the regular season. However, their opponents have an equally impressive track record in 2018 and will be just as confident in their ability to walk away with the title on Sunday. UBCOB Ravens were undefeated in the Boys’ Mainland division during the regular season and conceded just 34 points over six games, that’s less than a converted try per match! Fans of both teams will doubtless be in full voice when the two sides take to the field on Sunday.
But before we get to that match, there is the all-important question of who will win the U16 Division, due to be decided between hosts James Bay AA and UBCOB Ravens RFC. James bay will doubtless revel in having home-field advantage when they tack to the pitch, but their performance in the U16 Island matches has been plenty impressive on its own. The side were undefeated in the regular season and have an impressive scoring record to boot. Meanwhile, UBCOB Ravens have had to battle hard to earn their spot in the final, finishing second during regular season play in the Mainland division and edging their mainland playoff match against a feisty Capilano RFC side (finalists in 2017) by just two points. Will this fighting spirit help see Ravens rise all the way to the top come Sunday afternoon, or will the hosts claim the spoils?
While there won’t be any streaming available for the games, stay tuned to the BC Rugby Social Media channels for updates from the touchlines. A full gallery of photos will be made available at the beginning of next week.
