BC’s Match Officials have been putting in time on the field to get ready for the 2018-2019 season. Pre-season development session took place at the start of the month in Langford (Vancouver Island), Burnaby (Lower Mainland) and the Okanagan (Interior).
Vancouver Island Referees were up first, working through an hour of running line and positioning drills before putting their skills into practice at the Langford Sevens.
Hot on their heels at Burnaby Lake Rugby Club, 12 players ran some live breakdown phases for the referees to work on their movement and decision-making. The breakdown is what makes rugby union unique and it was great to see players and referees working together to improve the game.
Finally, over in the Interior, up and coming referees from Kelowna and Kamloops ran through some general play to breakdown positioning skills. That weekend the Interior referees put their skills to work as AR’s and Referees at the Saratoga Cup in Penticton.
