2018 PRCs Day 1: Slick Conditions and Slick Rugby

July 01, 2018

Burnaby, BC – June 30, 2018: It was an overcast and damp morning to start the 2018 Provincial Regional Championships, sponsored by B2Gold.  But the weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of the hundreds of young rugby players who gathered to compete for glory in their regional colours.  The three-day event is the pinnacle of Regional Rugby in BC and, for many, a springboard to the National Championships held across Canada this summer.

A total of 40 matches were contested on the lush grass of Burnaby Lake RFC during this first day of competition, the damp weather making for slippery handling conditions early on.  Many of the matches were fiercely contested between the regions, with nearly 600 points racked up by all teams over the day.  On a busy Canada Day weekend, it was impressive to see so many bodies, both players and supporters, lining the fields and cheering on the action.

There were some fine displays of skill, strength, technique and power on display across the age groups.  Impressive footwork and raw pace were in abundance. With BC Provincial Representative (Rep) Team Coaches looking on from the sidelines, this weekend could be the chance for some of these young players to put themselves on the map and secure a spot on a Rep XV Squad in the coming weeks.

With the weather set to improve tomorrow and all of the divisions primed for more action, Day 2 of the 2018 PRCs is already a mouth-watering prospect.  For more information on the PRCs, including schedules and results, go to bcrugby.com/prcs

Live streaming, provided by SCTV, will be available again for all games on Field 2.
