Following the tragic news from Saskatchewan last Friday, rugby clubs across the Province took a moment over the weekend to show solidarity & respect for the families and loved ones of the Humboldt Broncos. Players, officials and fans alike observed a minute of silence as a mark of respect to those affected by the tragedy, with many visibly moved. Like any other team sport, the Rugby community in BC is familiar with the long journeys undertaken every weekend to attend fixtures, and events of last Friday have shocked many to their core.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon, approximately 300miles north of Regina. The Humboldt Broncos players and staff, 29 people in total, were on their way to play the Nipawin Hawks in Game 5 of its SJHL semi-final series when the collision took place. There has been an outpouring of emotion and support from the Canadian Hockey community and Canada as a whole, both online and in towns and cities across the country.
