2018 Vancouver Rugby Festival - Day One Recap

March 09, 2018

Vancouver, BC - March 8th, 2018: Day one at the 2018 Vancouver Rugby Festival is over and plenty of smiles all round despite the wet weather.  Over 50 matches were played across the three fields at UBC’s Gerald McGavin Rugby Centre, with plenty of exciting end-to-end action throughout the day.  Teams had to contend with slippery handling conditions as well as fierce competition from opponents.  That didn’t stop some electrifying “champagne rugby” moments and deft passes, particularly from the newly created NextGen Divisions.

The crowds braved the damp conditions to cheer on their sides, outbreaks of support yelled towards the field as players accelerated to top gear.  The wet underfoot conditions were exploited by many, attackers able to slide several yards forward even as they were tackled.  Credit to all players, managers, coaches and match officials for enduring a wet and chilly day on the rugby field.  The buzz from the crowds gathered in the Gerald McGavin Rugby Pavillion confirmed just how much everyone enjoyed watching the action.

With the pool games complete, tomorrow’s action moves to knock-out games for most divisions, as the teams battle for the coveted top spots.  Action gets underway at 9.20am and the medal games starting from around 1.30pm.  A live stream will cover selected games on Field 1 and 2 across the day.  To watch the games just visit bcrugby.com/live
