The Vancouver-Fraser Valley Rugby Referee Society (VFVRRS) will be having its first referees' meeting of the 2014/15 season on Wednesday, August 27th at Burnaby Lake Rugby Club starting at 6:30pm.

All meetings are open to club reps, coaches, managers, league coordinators and, most importantly, new referees!

“We're trying to increase the number of club reps and coaches that attend our meetings to be able to create better dialogue amongst our members,” said Nia Parsonage, VP of Communications with VFVRRS. “We only ever have one perspective - the referee's - and we'd love to hear from captains and coaches.”

2014/15 Executive

-VP Referee Development, Drew Sagar

-Club Allocator, Rod Watkins

Referees’ Fall Meeting Schedule

-September 21st, BLRC, 6:30pm

-October 22nd, BLRC, 6:30pm

-November 26th, TBD – potentially our annual Pub Quiz Night

2014/15 Goals

1.Establish stronger communication lines with all BCRU stakeholders, especially VRU and FVRU clubs.

2.Increase collaboration with coaches at all levels of club rugby.

3.Recruit and develop Level 1 Certified referees for Junior-level club games and high-school matches. As games are typically on weekdays or Sundays, this allows current players to gain experience and earn some cash. It also helps reduce the workload on society members who ref Senior-level matches on Saturdays.

4.Continue to provide support, guidance, and referee coaching to all society referees, especially newcomers (whether they are at high-school, junior, or senior level).

Training Session

For referees interested, Sherry Trumbull has organized a sprint training session before the meeting. I can guarantee it will be a good session and will not be as strenuous as you might think; time is spent on technique and form, not straight sprints! I'll get details from her once she is back from the Women's Rugby World Cup in Paris!!
