BC U19s fall 14-5 to Ontario Junior Blues
ST. JOHN’S, NFLD - BC’s under-19 men’s provincial team fell 14-5 to Ontario in their third game of the Canadian Rugby Championship on Saturday afternoon. BC’s lone try was recorded by winger Karsten Leitner (Vancouver) but the squad was unable to convert further pressure into points.

The BC squad dropped to (2-1) after the result and now sit in third place with eight points heading into the final round of competition. Ontario (3-0) tops the table with 14, while hosts Atlantic Rock sits second with 11.

“The players performed well and really came together,” said Head Coach Kris de Scossa. “We had a large amount of time inside Ontario’s 22. An unfortunate interception gave them the lead against the run of play.”

“Having said that, Ontario played well and it showed that they had three warm up games heading into the competition,” de Scossa added.

BC’s final match will see them face the Rock at 11:00am (NFLD Time) at Swiler’s Rugby Complex. Table leaders Ontario will wrap up the tournament against the Voyageurs at 1:00pm.

BC Bears 12 - 10 Voyageurs
ST JOHN'S, NFLD - The BC U19 men's provincial team survived a scare on Thursday against the Lower Canada Voyageurs when they narrowly came away with a 12-10 win at Swiler's Rugby Complex in St. John's, Newfoundland.
Sustained cross winds of 45 km/h with gusts up to 60 km/h tested both teams throughout the match.

BC's Giuseppe Du Toit (Ridge Meadows) opened the scoring at the seven-minute mark, successfully grounding the ball for five points. Windy conditions made the conversion almost impossible. The Voyageurs responded nine minutes later with Nate Edwardson scoring a penalty kick followed by Vince Gionet  with a try. Edwardson placed a well-gauged kick between the uprights to mark the score at 10-5 for the green clad mix from Ottawa and Quebec.

The second half was delayed due to a Voyageur leg injury requiring EMT attention. The second half was balanced and well fought by both sides. 23 minutes into the half, Harjun Gill (Richmond) scored a try and Ollie Smith (North Vancouver) scored the conversion turning the tide and placing a 12-10 lead for the Bears. The last minutes of the match saw a great deal of action, but the Voyageur’s backs held their ground until the final whistle.

The BC team will now have a day off to regroup ahead of their Saturday clash with Ontario Junior Blues at 3:00pm (NFLD Time) on Saturday. For more updates, check back to www.canadianrugbychampionship.com
