This posting is for players interested in attending an open tryout for the Island U16 and U18 girls representative 15-a-side rugby teams. These teams will compete in the following regional championships:
• U16 Tsunami team - Provincial District Competition at UBC over the June 28-29 weekend. This tournament will be a competition between other regional teams from throughout the province and will be attended by BC selectors selecting a BC U16 team to compete in the National Age Grade rugby festival from August 6-11 in Calgary. Players born in 1998 and 1999 are eligible**.
• U18 Tsunami team - - Provincial Regional Competition at UBC over the July 4-6 weekend. This tournament will be a competition between other regional teams from throughout the province and will be attended by BC selectors selecting a BC U18 team to compete in the National Age Grade rugby festival from August 6-11 in Calgary. Players born in 1996 and 1997 are eligible**.
** Younger players will be considered with review by the coaching committee.
In addition, coaches for the BC Summer games U17 Sevens team will be in attendance to observe and identify athletes for a future trial for the BC Summer games sevens team that will compete in the BC Summer games from July 17-21 in Nanaimo.
We would like all interested athletes to complete an information sheet prior to the tryout at the Tsunami Academy website and also indicate whether that are available to play in the Victoria 7s for July 12/13. Form is found HERE
We will be running fitness tests and skills drills to assess the athletes and appreciate any assistance with setup and recording of information at the fitness stations. Could any parents willing to assist, please let me know via an e-mail. If your daughter will be attending, please complete the form above and send me a quick e-mail to David Crossley so that we can track the number of girls coming to the event.
Girls must bring a snack/lunch and water to the event. Depending on weather, appropriate clothing and/or sunscreen to the event. The coaching team is very much looking forward to seeing all of the eligible Island girl rugby athletes at this unique opportunity. 9:30am to 10:00am – registration
10:00am to 12:15pm – fitness tests
12:15pm – 12:45pm – break for lunch, coaches to discuss tournaments
12:45pm – 2:00pm – skills assessment
2:30pm – 3:30pm – 3x20 min trial games
