VANCOUVER, BC - A number of BC Rugby referees have been appointed to major international fixtures and Canadian national championships in recent weeks. The list includes Sherry Trumbull officiating the Women's Six Nationas, Chris Assmus heading to France to referee in the Pro D2 Division and several BC Rugby Referees' Society (BCRRS) members officiating at the upcoming Rugby Canada National University Sevens Championships in Langford.
North Vancouver-based official Sherry Trumbull highlights the list after officiating the Ireland versus England Women's Six Nations clash at Twickenham on February 22nd. Trumbull will head to Cardiff for the March 16th Wales versus Scotland clash at Port Talbot.
Assmus will travel to France to officiate in the Pro D2 Division, a competition that has featured several Canadian internationals in recent years. On March 22nd Assmus will referee St. Jeans de Luz vs Limoges and on March 29th will referee Dax vs Carcassonne.
"Being a french speaker, the experience in France should give me a lot," said Assmus. "I will be back in BC in April with some management lessons learned surely."
Assmus and Trumbull are among the 11 BC-based officials who will be involved with the National University Sevens, set for March 7-9, 2014 at Langford's Westhills Stadium.
The list includes Gerry Clayton, Bruce Kuklinski, Al Hudson, Harry Mason, David Smortchevsky, Toby Mustill, John Buxcey, Michael Jones and Nathan Abdelnour (Rugby Canada's Manager of Match Official Development).
