BC Rugby Canadian Direct Insurance High Performance Academy Camps underway
Youth Academies still open for registration

VANCOUVER, BC - BC Rugby held their first sessions for the Canadian Direct Insurance High Performance Academy Camps on Saturday, February 1st in Burnaby and Delta. 30 age grade athletes have now signed up with registration still open for those looking to join the programs.

Athletes from Vancouver, North Vancouver and Burnaby are currently training together at Burnaby Central Secondary School on their turf field. Delta's John Oliver Park is the location for Fraser Valley and Delta based athletes. Plans are currently in place to launch additional academies on Vancouver Island, in the Fraser Valley and the Interior. 

"We had our first sessions on Saturday and both were well attended," said BC Rugby Provincial Coach and Development Manager Dave Brown. "We have 15 athletes involved in each program and we will be focusing on core skills development. We also ran the Rugby Canada 40-metre sprint test."

The Canadian Direct Insurance High Performance Regional Academy Camps will run until May 17th and will provide exclusive opportunities in the following age grades;

· Boys - U14 and U13: Birth years 2000 and 2001, LTAD Phase – Train to train, Developing core skills and values

· Men - U16 and U15: Birth years 1998 and 1999, LTAD Phase – Train to Compete, Enhancing core skills and values

· Women - U18 through to U15: Birth years, 1996 to 1999, LTAD Phases – Train to Train/Compete, Developing core skills and values

The Academy sessions are currently being offered at the following locations:

Burnaby Central Secondary School (6011 Deer Lake Pkwy, Burnaby, BC V5G 0A9)
For athletes from regions Vancouver / Richmond / North Van / Burnaby

John Oliver Park (11590 Ladner Trunk Rd Delta, BC V4K)
For athletes from regions Delta / Fraser Valley
The cost for the 15 sessions that the Academy provides is $300.00 plus GST. Besides getting exposure to quality coaching, athletes will also be introduced to Rugby Canada Fitness testing protocols as well as receiving personal evaluations and feedback along with a water bottle, rugby ball and track top.
Athletes can sign up for the Academy through the BC Rugby Office and by completing the attached  REGISTRATION FORM (pdf).
