DELTA, BC - Seattle-based rugby club Emerald City Mudhens upset previously undefeated Simon Fraser University on Saturday afternoon to take the Women's Lower Mainland Tier One Anna Schnell Cup. Tier Two action saw Abbotsford RFC down UBC Okanagan Heat 25-12 to complete a perfect season and lift their second straight WCWRA Cup.

Women's Lower Mainland Tier One - Sat. November 30th:
ANNA SCHNELL CUP FINAL: Mudhens 29 - 12 SFU
PLATE FINAL: Seattle 0 - 12 Bayside
BOWL FINAL: Capilano 32 - 10 Burnaby Lake

Women's Lower Mainland Tier Two - Sat. November 30th:
WCWRA CUP FINAL: UBCO Heat 12 - 25 Abbotsford RFC
BOWL FINAL: Brit Lions 10 - 5 Ridge Meadows

Tier One - Women's Lower Mainland
Playing in a heavy downpour, SFU struck first in the Tier One final and jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The sides were evenly matched in the opening half and were level 12-12 at the break. The second half saw the Mudhens take control and with three tries, one of them converted, the Americans took the title with a 29-12 final score.

The two teams had met back on October 5th with SFU posting a 71-17 victory.

"We knew SFU would play a wide, expansive game and it would be a real test for us," said Mudhens captain Ashley Kmiecik. "We had to win the one-on-one match ups and in the second half we dominated at the point of contact. We were then able to strike through their drift defence which allowed for our ball runners to cut through and score tries."

In the Plate Final, Bayside were 12-0 winners over Seattle and took third place in the Tier One division. Jodie Cornell and Rachel Craig each recorded tries with Paige Smith adding a conversion. The Bowl went to North Shore club Capilano RFC who defeated Burnaby Lake 32-10 in the 5/6 playoff.

Tier Two - Women's Lower Mainland
Abbotsford RFC repeated as the Women's West Coast Rugby Association (WCWRA) trophy winners with a strong second half, keeping the UBC Okanagan Heat from scoring any points after the break.

Natalie Teteris paced Abby with two tries and scores were also provided by Mackenzie Fowler, Meagan Chambers and Kate Estell.

"We really got our off-load game going in wet conditions and our defence was very, very good," said Abbotsford head coach Dave Chambers. "We didn't over-commit at the breakdown and our strength was the team really playing for each other. This is a tight group and they have all bought into the systems we've been trying to put in place this season."

Abbotsford went 6-0 in the regular season and ranked first in defence, allowing just 5 points per game against.

In the Bowl Final, hosts Brit Lions edged Ridge Meadows 10-5 to take third place in the Tier Two competition.
