(TORONTO, ON) – Saturday marks a very important day in determining the winner of the 2013 Canadian Rugby Championship, with the Ontario Blues set to host the British Columbia Bears in Lindsay, ON for a crucial CRC matchup.

The Blues and Bears are the remaining contenders for the 2013 CRC title, and the two sides will resume their bitter rivalry on what looks to be a perfect fall afternoon in Lindsay. The Blues can clinch the MacTier Cup with a win, while British Columbia can remain in the championship hunt with a victory over their hosts.

History indicates that very little separates these two provincial powerhouses. BC and Ontario have met seven times since the CRC began in 2009, with Ontario winning four head-to-head matchups, and BC taking three; five of the seven matches have been played in BC.

“Every Ontario player wants to play against BC,” said Blues head coach Chris Silverthorn, describing the significance of the occasion. “There is certainly no extra motivation needed for this one.”

As an added bonus, the inaugural Milk Cup, sponsored by the Dairy Farmers of Ontario, is also up for grabs on Saturday afternoon, and will be awarded annually to the winner of the Ontario-hosted Blues vs. BC match.

“The town of Lindsay and the Kawartha Lakes area have done a fantastic job of promoting and marketing this event,” said Blues manager Mark Winokur. “With a local high school 7s tournament preceding the CRC match, plus the mini game at halftime, this is a real example of grass-roots community rugby. The guys are really looking forward to playing in this atmosphere.”

The Blues vs. Bears match will kickoff at 4:30 p.m. at Lindsay RFC, located at 67 Vince Jones Road, Kawartha Lakes, ON. The Ontario Blues Invitational 7s Tournament is running in the morning and early afternoon at various venues around Lindsay, with the tournament final taking place shortly before the CRC match kickoff.

Tickets for the CRC showdown can be reserved online for $10, or purchased at the gate for $12. Lindsay RFC will see all proceeds from the gate, and will be using these proceeds to offset $10,000-worth of losses from their clubhouse break-in that occurred last week.

Ontario’s roster for Saturday’s match will be released Thursday, Sept. 12th.
