SURREY - The scare of showers and clouds in the morning turned to sunshine and fast rugby on the perfect rugby pitches at South Surrey Athletic Park on Saturday as Bayside Athletic Association hosted the final stop of the BC Sevens Series.
19 teams took part (5 Elite, 10 Social and 4 women’s teams) from the mainland and Vancouver Island. Bayside would like to thank all of the teams for coming out and playing some great rugby. Many of the games could have gone either way.
The Social division was won by Langley Rugby Club. Runners up Abbotsford.
The Women Elite was won by Burnaby. Runners up Abbotsford
The Men’s Elite was won by Bayside. Runners up Abbotsford
In the Elite final, Bayside’s Adam Timler teamed up with Semiahmoo grads Jon Hill and Liam Murphy-Burke to make a formidable threesome. Murphy-Burke and Timler scored two tries a piece with Burke’s last try being the straw that broke the camel's back mid way through the second half. Abbotsford showed the partisan crowd that they wanted to win a share of this years Sevens Series competition with a tournament win. It was not to be as Adam “The Tornado” Timler popped up time and time again with his sneaky speed and high work rate.
Burnaby wins another BC Sevens Series with another consistent effort all summer long. Congratulations to both the Men and Women from Burnaby.
Thank you to all of the volunteers and teams for making this years tournament such a huge success. See you next year.
