CALGARY - Old rivalries will take centre stage on Wednesday afternoon in Calgary as the defending U19 national champions British Columbia scrum down against Ontario in day one of the 2013 Canadian Rugby Championship. Last year's title was determined by a single try as BC downed runner-ups Ontario 31-24 in Edmonton and this year promises to be just as tightly contested.

The match will be a showcase of upcoming junior national team talent as five Canada U20 players will suit up for BC (Neil Courtney, Connor Hamilton, James Pitblado, Jorden Sandover-Best, Nathan Yanagiya) and an additional four from Ontario (Sawyer Herron, Matt Mullins, Djustice Sears-Duru, Jack Smith) will take to the pitch.

"Many of our players on this team are products of the BC Rugby Academy and it has been great seeing them develop over the years and transfer the skills they have learned onto the field," said BC head coach Kris de Scossa.

"It's also great to have the Canada U20 players who were in Chile for the Junior World Rugby Trophy showing plenty of confidence," de Scossa added. "James Pitblado has really become a great leader. Connor Hamilton is the glue that sticks it all together providing quiet leadership and leading by example. And then you have versatility in the backs with Jorden Sandover-Best who can play well in two or three different positions."

The BC squad departed for Calgary on Tuesday morning ahead of their four game schedule. First up is Ontario on Wednesday and then there is a Thursday morning fixture against the Eastern-Ontario and Quebec reps Voyageurs. The final round-robin match against hosts Prairie Wolf Pack is slated for Saturday morning and the placement games are set for Sunday.
