VICTORIA, BC - Head coach of the BC Elite Youth Sevens program and tournament organizer for the Victoria International Sevens Shane Thompson has confirmed the addition of three teams to this year's U18 division. Touring side Southern California Selects and two teams from Sherborne School will join Ontario, Washington, Utah and three BC squads in the competition scheduled for July 12-13 at the University of Victoria.

Rep side Southern California won the High School Open Division in Las Vegas, defeating BC's U17 team in the 2013 High School final.

Sherborne (England) has a storied rugby program and regularly produces rep players who go on to play for their County, Division and beyond. The school also enjoys close links with Bath Rugby and their academy coaches who feature regularly at school practices. Sherborne's U15 team competes in the national Daily Mail competition and recently made the final at Twickenham. Sherborne is also part of the Veterrimi IV, the four oldest rugby playing schools in the world who meet biannually for a festival in October.

This year's competition will also feature U16 and U14 boys competitions and will be used as a key scouting ground as Thompson begins to look forward to developing the next generation of sevens rugby stars.

"This is really the only elite invitational tournament in Canada for the Under-18 group and outside of the Las Vegas Invitational is the largest youth or representative sevens event in North America," Thompson said. "It's a great event and is an important part of our pathway."

The Vancouver Island Tide, North Shore, Fraser Valley West and Fraser Valley East programs will each be fielding teams in the U14 and U16 divisions. Vancouver West will enter a team into the U16s and the Delta/Richmond/Burnaby region will enter a team in the U14 competition. Thompson is still looking for additional teams to join the U16 and U14 competitions. It looks like both Washington and Southern Cal will be bringing U 16 teams as well.

Please note the teams in U14 and U16 divisions will be regional representative sides (not club) and will be selected in a similar format to the Provincial Regional Championships (ie North Vancouver Reps, Fraser Valley Reps, etc)

The Victoria event will also feature a girls division with the age grade to be confirmed.

- Under-18 Boys Elite Division (By Invitation Only - Birth years 1995, '96)
- Under-16 Boys Representative Division (Birth years 1997, '98)
- Under-14 Boys Representative Division (Birth Years 1999, '200)
- Girls Division (Age grade TBC)

The tournament will feature an International Coaching Symposium. Teams interested in participating are asked to contact Tournament Director Shane Thompson at sthompson@bcrugby.com to confirm the team name, and the age groups of interest.
