BC High School Girls rugby provincials underway on Thursday at UBC

VANCOUVER, BC - The 2013 BC Rugby High School Girls Rugby Association will kick off their provincial XVs on Thursday morning at UBC's Wolfson Fields.

In the Triple-A competition, top-seeded Cowichan will be looking to end Carson Graham's eight-year run as provincial champs. Cowichan boast plenty of speed and proved dangerous en route to the 2013 High School Girls Sevens provincial title in April. Seeded third are the provincial sevens runner-ups Lord Tweedsmuir.

In the double-A division, defending champs Abbotsford Collegiate are ranked first. Top seed in the Tier 2 division went to newcomers Houston.

In total, the competition will feature 24 teams across three divisions. Tier 2 action gets underway at 11:30am on Thursday, with the double-A clashes set for 1:00pm and the Triple-A openers set for 2:30pm.

The semifinals will be on Friday, May 24th with the placement matches and medal rounds set to go on Saturday.

2012 Provincials recap
Carson Graham, Abbotsford and Alberni take 2012 BCHSGRA titles
NORTH VANCOUVER - The Carson Graham Eagles (Triple-A), Abbotsford Collegiate Panthers (Double-A) and Alberni District Secondary School (Tier 2) each lived up to their top-seedings at the 2012 BC High School Girls Rugby Association provincial finals to win their respective divisions this past weekend.

AAA
The Carson Graham Eagles lifted the provincial title with a 10-5 victory over GP Vanier of Vancouver Island. BC provincial  team standout Jess Neilson recorded a try, conversion and penalty to secure the win at West Vancouver's Klahanie Park.

AA
The Abbotsford Collegiate Panthers secured their second major trophy of 2012 on Saturday, downing Brentwood College 42-3 in the Double-A provincial final. Six weeks prior to the 15-a-side tournament, Abbotsford had gone undefeated to win the 2012 BC High School Girls Seven-a-side provincial title at UBC.

Tier Two
The Alberni District Secondary School Girl's team were convincing 35-5 winners over North Burnaby in the quarters, and narrowly edged Kelowna's Mt. Boucherie 15-12 in the semifinal rounds. The Alberni squad pipped their Island rivals Shawnigan Lake for the provincial title on Saturday afternoon.
