VICTORIA, B.C. - The University of Victoria will play host to three important rugby match ups this weekend including the finals for the women's Adidas Premiership (Gordon Harris Memorial Cup), the men's first division (Ceili's Cup) and the CDI Premier League (Rounsefell Cup).

The Vikes men's norsemen squad will suit up for the Ceili's Cup, set for 2:00 p.m. on May 11, while Victoria's James Bay Athletic Association will play Burnaby Lake RC for the CDI Premier final at 4:00 p.m.

The Vikes norsemen defeated the Meraloma Rugby Club last weekend by a score of 23-12 to advance to the finals, while Burnaby Lake RC conquered Capilano RFC 18-3 in the other semifinal. Following regular season play, the Vikes men were at the top of the charts with 62 points and a 12-2-0 record. Meanwhile, Burnaby Lake RC was not far behind with 60 points and the same record. The Vikes lead the charts in every category including tallying 722 points for, 239 points against and 14 bonus points.

This weekend the Vikes norsemen will have a strong line up to contend with the size and strength of the Burnaby side including rookie Fergus Hall, a fly half who, along with flanker Jeff Nishima-Miller, came through the BC Elite Youth Sevens program. The pair have been key players for the young Vikes squad. Veteran Jamie Mackenzie has also played a crucial roll as scrum half. The Vikes will also expect contributions from players who have had varsity experience with the Vikes premier-level team including Nathan Stewart and Kane Wyatt.

In the CDI Premier League, the Vikes' top team finished sixth with a 5-8-1 record, leaving them out of seminal qualification. The Vikes battled with a rotating roster due to several of the members having international commitments with the Canadian national team. The CDI premier final will pit James Bay against Burnaby Lake, who are 1-1 in their head-to-head record. This weekend's appearance in the CDI premier final ends an almost two-decade drought for Burnaby Lake, while James Bay were three-time champions from 2005 to 2008.
