VANCOUVER, BC - The British Columbia Rugby Union will be fielding a U16 women's provincial team at this year's Age Grade National Championships in Vancouver (August 7-11) and have appointed Rugby Canada's Female Coach of the Year Jen Ross to lead the new program.
An instrumental figure in the women's and youth rugby communities, Ross was recognized by Rugby Canada this past April for her contributions and successes at the helm of club, regional and high school programs.
Ross's Under-17 Fraser Valley women's teams won gold and silver at the 2012 BC Summer Games; her 15-a-side Fraser Valley side defended their Provincial Regional Championships (PRCs) title in July; and her club side Abbotsford RFC's U18 women won back-to-back provincial titles this past November.
"Young athletes will be motivated to play their best rugby for a coach they respect and admire," said Marlene Donaldson, BC Rugby Girls Youth Development Officer. "Jen is committed and passionate about developing young female rugby players and her resume shows that she is garnering success with her coaching methods. I look forward to managing with Jen Ross and assisting her coaching development."
The U16 women's program will be holding trials in Kamloops (May 5th) and Williams Lake (May 11) and will be staging ID sessions across the province in the coming months. Check back to www.bcrugby.com for more information.
