LANGFORD, BC - Over the past weekend at the Rugby Canada AGM in Langford, BC Elite Youth Sevens funder and partner Kevin Mahon (Adera Development Corp) was on hand to make a presentation about the recent successes of the age grade program established three years ago.

The presentation was titled "BC Elite Youth Sevens - Building Pathways for World Leading Elite Junior Player Development". Mahon discussed the establishment of the program and provided examples of junior athletes excelling at the age grade level and being able to make the jump to international senior men's competition.

The program summary discussed the process of hiring a full-time coach in BC's Shane Thompson, setting goals for creating a coaching funnel in the province, creating and staging domestic and international tournaments, as well as setting goals and benchmarks against other top-tier countries.

The presentation also touched on how Canada can become the best in the world by:
- Bridging the gap and evolving from our program to 18-20 years, keeping elite youth players involved
- Training and Certifying more coaches for sevens
- Helping to develop sevens referees
- Identifying cross-over athletes or elite athletes not currently involved in rugby
- Incorporating sport technology into the BC Elite Youth Sevens
