VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes will travel to enemy territory this Saturday, Apr. 13, as they face off against the No. 3 Capilanos at Klahanie Park in Vancouver. The Vikes are currently four points back of No.4 Meraloma RC and with a win this weekend the UVic men will still be in the running for a playoff berth.

As the season comes to a close, teams are scrambling to make it into the playoffs. The Meralomas are holding on for dear life to the fourth and final post-season position and this weekend will face the visiting Castaway Wanderers RC, a team that needs a mere three points in the standings to cover the distance. If the Vikes earn a victory this weekend, they too will be jockeying for a playoff position.

“It's close for all these teams at this time of year,” said Doug Tate, head coach of the Vikes. “Anything could happen and we're not out of it by any means.”

With last weekend's 40-27 victory over the Meralomas, the Vikes proved that they have the talent to get the win when it counts. The return of Phil Mack has made an immediate impact. Arguably, the dynamic scrumhalf is unmatched in the premier league as his speed and drive on the field gives the Vikes an edge in any contest.

In addition, Liam Murray, in the front row, has been instrumental to the Vikes' success as of late. Sophomore Pat Kay has continued to play well at flyhalf and wingers Beau Parker and Luke McCloskey have been consistent contributors.

As the reigning league champions, the Capilanos have not made it easy for their opposition this season. A dominant force on the wing, the Vikes will need all hands on deck to deal with the six-foot-three Adam Zaruba while kicker Chris Robinson is currently the team's leading scorer and it will be up to the UVic side to keep him from going through the uprights.

The Vikes kick off against Capilano RFC tomorrow, Apr. 13, at 2:45 p.m. at Klahanie Park in Vancouver.
