Head Coach of the BC Elite Youth Sevens program Shane Thompson will be holding three open ID sessions during the month of April in the Lower Mainland and Okanagan regions. A U16 ID session for male athletes born in 1997 and '98 will be held this Saturday, April 13th at Capilano RFC's Klahanie Park in North Vancouver. A U16 Fraser Valley East session has also been confirmed for Sunday, April 21st at Abbotsford's Exhibition Park.

On Saturday, April 20th, Thompson will be in Kelowna to identify both U18 and U16 athletes and will be holding a session at Parkinson Rec Centre Fields.

The sessions will allow Thompson to see younger players in preparation for the upcoming Victoria International Sevens (July, 2013) which will add a U16 division this year. This group will also be identified for next year when Thompson plans to take the Elite Youth Sevens program to Las Vegas and Hong Kong to compete in international events.

About the BCEY7s program
As a result of rugby sevens being included in the Olympic games for 2016 and 2020, the British Columbia Rugby Union created the Elite Youth Sevens program. The sevens academy is designed to help develop young athletes into the rugby players who will be best qualified to represent Canada with distinction at future Olympic Games and Rugby World Cups. The program is geared towards identifying, training and developing athletes who can go on to represent their Regions, their Province and Canada at Age Grade Level and beyond.
