VANCOUVER - BC Rugby today announced the additional programs and opportunities to be included in the revamped provincial 15-a-side women's player pathway. Building on the recent success of the U18 women's B2Gold Provincial Championships, an additional U16 women's division will be added to this summer's calendar. The top players selected from the PRC's event will then go on to represent BC at the Rugby Canada National Festival in the U16 women's division.

BC Rugby will also be reviving the Under-20 provincial program and will be entering a team at this year's National Women's League Finals in Vancouver. The BC senior women's provincial team will also be competing at this year's NWL event as the program looks to wrestle the title from Ontario's grasp. The tournament will be used by national selectors to scout players for the upcoming Women's Nation's Cup.

"With the 2014 Women's Rugby World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games fast approaching, it's important for us to provide opportunities for young women to be introduced to representative rugby," said Jeff Sauvé, BC Rugby Chief Executive Officer. "With the BC Girls High School Rugby season now underway and over 60 teams competing, we want these aspiring provincial reps to know that there are opportunities available to them at the regional, provincial and eventually the national levels."

Shortly after the BC High School Girls Rugby Association provincial 15s finals wrap up at the end of May, athletes born in 1997 and 1998 will be putting their hands up for selection to regional sides set to compete in the 2013 B2Gold PRCs. The U16 women's competition will be played out the same weekend as the U15 Boys PRCs, set for June 22-23 at UBC. A roster will then be picked for further trial and staging camps ahead of the 2013 National Festival in August.
