Boys and girls, of all abilities between the ages of fourteen and seventeen, are invited to attend the 4th Annual Shawnigan Lake Summer Rugby Academy which is being held from July 7 to 12, 2013. The sessions offer an exciting opportunity for all young rugby players to enjoy some fun, skills, drills and competitions.
Canada's best youth coaching staff, lead by Jim Delaney (Canadian U17 Coach) will focus on skill development and games to ensure that each participant enjoys the experience and recognizes what it takes to play rugby at a national level. Kieran Crowley (Canadian Senior Men's XVs Coach) and Geraint John (Canadian Senior Men's 7s Coach) will make guest appearances. Members of the National Canadian Representative teams will assist with activities, coaching and as house parents.
The camp has the support of Rugby Canada and the BCRU and has been very well received by coaches and players who have attended the program since its inception. Skill and team development will occupy in the morning and afternoon sessions while the following activities are planned for the evening, setting up a Personal Fitness Program, good Nutrition ideas, Team Building activities, and recreational activities.
"This camp went beyond my expectations of what I would encounter here. The rooming arrangements, food, activities, facilities, coaching, drills and talent at the camp was extremely impressive. The experience and rugby was flawless, and personally I cannot wait to return to this fabulous camp."
"I would recommend the SLS camp to my friends because the experience was definitely well worth it. It gave me lots of experiences, the coaches were supportative and it was all round good fun. I look forward to coming back again next year."
"I had a great time at the camp. The coaching was great and the drills helped me develop my skills"
"Working at the camp last year was an awesome experience. Sean (White) and I had a lot of fun spending time with the young rugby players in and out of the dorms and sharing our rugby experiences with them. A lot of these young guys are the future of Rugby Canada and I think a camp like this is really important because it allows us senior guys to spend extra time with them and really encourage them to continue to develop their skills, and even give guidance to the ones who want to pursue rugby as a career. Another great aspect of the kid's program was that there are a number of recreational players who also benefited from the technical and fun themes. The way that the different ages and skill types came together really was amazing."
