ABBOTSFORD - The Abbotsford U-15 Boys team clinched the Lower Mainland title this past weekend with a 25-17 victory over the Rowers/Burnaby combined team at their home pitch at Exhibition Park. The local boys were led on the day by Matt Fraser who touched down for two tries, as well as James Parker, Adaio Spathelfer, and Colton Lavoie, who all scored as well. The win caps an undefeated season for the youthful Abby squad who outscored their opposition by a staggering margin of 295 points for and only 94 against.
Abbotsford coaches Steve Long and Shawn Rideout shared a few words about their experience coaching this season. "The season started out with two boys wanting to get a team together. After many hours on Facebook and word of mouth we had a team of around 18 players. As coaches we had given the boys a goal of at least 20 players or else no team … After seeing the dedication of the young men we went with what we had and never looked back!"
"After playing eight games with minimal to no spare players, one serious injury to one of our better players, and a lot of determination and hard work from everybody on the field … we managed to go undefeated for our season. The boys really gelled as a team and there were 14 different try scorers, which shows how easy it was to coach these boys!"
