BURNABY - This week's BC Rugby Junior MVP is one of the province's top prospects in the junior club system. At just 15 years of age, Taitusi Vikilani has already made his mark at the provincial and regional level and is developing into a true leader both on and off the pitch for Burnaby Lake Rugby Club's U17 team.

"He has taken on the role as captain and leader for the peers in his age grade," said Gio Lam, Burnaby's Director of Junior Rugby. "On the field his work rate is incredibly high, forcing his team mates to live up to his style of rugby. He is a strong player defensively and is gifted with the ball in hand. Off the field, he is a consummate club member always available to help out around the club whether it be filling water bottles, setting up flags and post pads or flipping burgers."

Taitusi Vikilani - Player Profile
Club: Burnaby Lake Rugby Club
Division: U17 Men's Lower Mainland
Number of years played: 4 years of junior rugby
Rep rugby experience: BC U14 provincial team (2 years); 2011 PRCs Van-East, 2012 PRCs Van-North; 2011 Victoria International 7s, U14 Van-East

Current Burnaby U17 coach and former Tongan international Tasi Vikilani has brought his four boys up to live and breathe rugby. As the second male child in the Vikilani family, Taitusi will be looking to follow in his father's footsteps and one day excel on the national stage. Taitusi is often seen around the club coaching his younger brother Siaki, another Vikilani not far behind him in the age grade ranks.

"Tutsi" - as he is more commonly known around the club says his favourite part about playing rugby is "ball carrying and tackling."

"Tutsi plays rugby with a smile and that's what junior rugby should be about - being competitive but still having fun," added Lam. "There is no other player that enjoys this aspect of the game more than Tutsi. He has been an absolute pleasure to talk to and work with and therefore deserves the recognition and my choice as BC Rugby Junior MVP."
