VANCOUVER - This week's BC Rugby Junior MVP is Capilano U17 standout Adam Martin. A dynamic player who usually excels at scrum half or on the wing, Adam came on as a substitute this past weekend at fly half and led his side to a convincing win over Vancouver Rowing Club.
Player's Name: Adam Martin
Club: Capilano RFC
Division: U17 Lower Mainland Tier 1 (16 yrs old)
Played Rugby: Since Grade 8
Rugby Experience: Senior Rugby at Rockridge in Grade 10, Vancouver North PRCs Non-Traveling Reserve
"Adam came on as a sub at fly half, a position he has never played before and did a phenomenal job controlling the back line and dominating the match with his defensive prowess and offensive vision," Capilano coach Curry Hitchborn said. "From Adam's first step he set a defensive precedent shutting down anyone who came in his path and stripping the ball from the opposition in contact with ease."
"Adam's excellent passing and constant attacking pressure was the difference maker in the Capilano back line," Hitchborn added. "Not only did Adam impress coaches, spectators and most importantly his team mates, he put a stamp on the all important fly half position."
For Adam, playing the game isn't just about performing under pressure, it's about enjoying the moment and the experience with his fellow team mates.
"I started playing rugby in grade eight at Rockridge and ever since then I have been hooked," Adam said. "I love the big runs and the open field play, having to think on my feet. My favourite part of rugby is the camaraderie and having a second family in my teammates."
The U17 Capilano squad are now sitting at 2-1 and this week look to avenge their only loss of the season when they scrum down against Bayside.
