VANCOUVER - This week's BC Rugby Junior MVP is U17 Bayside Shark Nick Wright. A provincial rep with the BC-2 U16 program which went on to win bronze this past summer at Nationals, Nick has carried his form into the club season where he was named Man of the Match this past weekend after Bayside's 24-10 win over Capilano.
Nick was nominated by his coaches Tom Wilson and Andy Blackburn.
Name: Nick Wright
Club: Bayside Athletic Association
Division: Lower Mainland Men's U17
Position: Hooker/Blindside flanker (excels in several positions)
Number of years playing rugby: 11
Nick is an avid rugby fan and player who joined Bayside as a kindergartener. He has played almost every position on the field and is currently having success as a hooker - representing BC U16's at Nationals this past Summer. Nick has been on rugby tours to Las Vegas, California as well as on an eight week rugby exchange to Wimbledon School in the UK last Fall. His favourite part of playing rugby is having the opportunity to travel, and meeting and playing with and against players from around the world.
"Nick shows what can be achieved in rugby through hard work and following your passion," says Blackburn. "He is involved in a Rugby Skills program at EMS School as well as Bayside' s High Performance Academy for its elite players and still finds time to work out at his local gym in between Bayside's twice-a-week practices. His performance against Caps, playing excellently at both hooker and blind-side flanker makes him a worthy winner of MVP of the week!"
