The International 15s tournament will see three other nations, the US, Argentina and Uruguay, send teams to Vancouver Island, to play in a three day round-robin structured tournament October 12th, 16th and 20th.

"Hosting international rugby in Canada is always an exciting opportunity and to be able to bring it to Rugby Canada‚s home of High Performance on the island makes it that much more special," said Graham Brown, Rugby Canada CEO. "We have had so much support from the entire community since we moved our facility here, we know this tournament is going to be a great success for Canadian rugby and for the local community."
The tournament will kick off on October 12th, where the local crowd will see USA take on Argentina for the 5:30pmPST kickoff and Canada will play Uruguay at 7:30pmPST in the first of three double headers. Day two will see Uruguay and Argentina face off at 5:30pmPST followed by Canada and USA at 7:30pmPST. The final day of the tournament will be capped off with Uruguay taking on USA at 5:30pmPST and Canada closing against Argentina at 7:30pmPST.
"We are pleased to be hosting the tournament and to be able to play in front of home supporters," said National Senior Men's Head Coach Kieran Crowley. "The tournament is seen as an important part of our development pathway and we are looking forward to the challenge of the games."
The opportunity to host the 2012 IRB Americas Rugby Championship came by way of Argentina, originally scheduled to host the tournament, not being able to take the event on. When asked by the IRB to take on the ARC, both Rugby Canada and the local community rose to the occasion and are excited at the chance to bring international rugby back to the Victoria Capital Regional District.
"Rugby Canada is proud to be able to host such exciting fixtures at our new Centre of Excellence in Langford," said Mike Chu, Rugby Canada General Manager, Rugby Operations and Performance. "Bringing international rugby to Langford is fantastic for us and the community."
"The IRB Americas Rugby Championship creates an important strategic link between the top ranked Unions in North and South America that will generate exciting and competitive matches, while allowing the participating Unions‚ coaching staff to take a closer look at the development of their elite domestic-based players as they now move in to the qualification and preparation cycle for [Rugby World Cup] 2015," said IRB Head of Development and Performance, Mark Egan.
With the event just weeks away, Rugby Canada is pleased to announce that the on sale date for tickets will be Friday, September 7th. Information on tickets and ticket pricing will be released soon. For more information on the event, please visit www.americasrugbychampionship.com.
