DIXON, CA - The TrueBlue British Columbia Under-17 men's provincial team wrapped up their tour of Northern California with a strong showing at the NorCal Youth Rugby Association Summer Sevens Championship in Dixon on Sunday afternoon. The BC-1s went 3-1 against U18 competition with wins against Jesuit High School, Dixon and the NorCal All Stars but fell 19-5 in their final outing against the Islanders BVG. The BC-200s, comprised of the U17 touring side's forward pack, went 1-3 with many of the players trying their hand at the sevens code for the first time.

Prior to their arrival in Dixon, the BC U17s had narrowly missed out on the inaugural TrueBlue BC NorCal Challenge Cup with a 19-17 loss to the Northern California All Stars on Friday evening at Treasure Island in San Francisco. Saturday was a day of sightseeing for the tourists as they took in the San Francisco Giants versus LA Dogers game at AT&T Park, visited Fisherman's Wharf and stopped by the famed Golden Gate Bridge.

The BC-1s, made up of the squad's speedy back line, excelled in the U18 Varsity division of the NCYRA Summer Sevens and even defeated their rivals Northern California All Stars 28-19. In their match against NorCal, speedster Connor McRae recorded two tries with scores also recorded by Spencer Loughlin and Tomasi Vataiki. Marshall Fuller went four-for-four between the uprights for eight points.

"It's great for the players to have more opportunities to play sevens against international competition away from home," said U17 coach Shane Thompson who is also the head coach of the BC Elite Youth Sevens program. "There aren't very many opportunities for us to gauge the level of the U17 age group outside of the PRCs so it's important that we engage them in more high level competition. It's important to expose our players to different styles of play which we saw a lot of at today's tournament."
