SURREY - Fraser Valley's rugby teams swept the Boys U14 and Girls U17 divisions at the BC Summer Games on Sunday morning as the region took home two golds, silver and bronze medals. In the U14 Boy's competition, Fraser Valley erased a 0-7 half time deficit to defeat Vancouver Island-Central Coast 12-7. In an all-Fraser Valley Women's U17 final, Fraser Valley-1 downed Fraser Valley-2 29-5.

Boys U14 Final: Fraser Valley 12, Vancouver Island-Central Coast 7
Vancouver-Island Central Coast jumped out to an early lead when Lucas de Vries chased down his own kick to dot down in the far corner. De Vries converted for the 7-0 half time team lead. Fraser Valley came out firing after the break and after tries from Chris Combs and Josh Long and a conversion from Jared Thind were up 12-7 with just minutes to play. Vancouver Island had possession for several phases down the stretch but were unable to convert pressure into points.

"That was the third tim we have played [Vancouver-Island] over the last few weeks and each time we found ourselves down at the half and came back to win," said Fraser Valley's head coach Mike Jamieson. "But our boys really stuck in again today and emptied the tank. It's not easy for 14-year-olds to play as many games as they did over the last three days and I think they have had a really strong showing.

In the U14 Boys bronze medal match, Fraser Valley-2 blanked Vancouver-Squamish 19-0, and Fraser River-Delta defeated Thompson Okanagan 25-0 in the fifth place playoff.

"It was unbelievable," Fraser Valley's head coach Jen Ross said of the program's run at this year's Games. "I'm proud of the way they represented the Valley. Again it just shows the amazing work that's coming out of the clubs and schools in the Fraser Valley. That group was easy to coach with some great kids and athletes."
