British Columbia's U19 men's provincial team defeated Ontario in a 31-24 thriller on Saturday at the Canadian Rugby Championship in Edmonton.

The clash between the tournament's two undefeated teams was the most anticipated clash of this year's tournament.

BC took an early lead through a try by Jean Koorsten before Ontarioís Mike Santag was shown a yellow card, forcing the Blues to hold on tight to ensure the half ended with BC leading only 5-0.

The physical battle gave way to a more open game of rugby in the second half, as Ontarioís Jean Koorsten tied the game at 5-5.

BC replied with a quick converted try through scrum half Mike Dalsin, before back to back tries by Jacob Webster and some great running from Lucas Hammond saw Ontario lead 19-12.

Another quick try from the Blues pushed the lead out to 24-12, before BC came flying home with to score three tries in succession and steal the game from Ontario.

"It was a cracking game of rugby, with the lead changing hands numerous times in the second half before BC deservedly got the victory," said national menís U20 coach Mike Shelley. "Ontario were very strong in the midfield and out wide, but BCís physical defence didnít let them take advantage of that."

"A number of players put their hands up for selection at the next level, which is great to see," added Coach Shelley.

Todayís results mean that BC leapfrog Ontario into top spot on the table with three wins, while the Blues and Wolfpack both have two wins a piece.  The Voyageurs have recorded one victory and as the Atlantic Rock have the bye on the final day of the competition they will go home with no wins but their pride intact.

The final day of competition will see BC scrum down against hosts Prairie Wolfpack as Ontario takes on the Eastern Ontario-Quebec Voyageurs.
