The BC CRC Program is in full swing with over 50 athletes registered to try out for the program.  With potential candidates playing for Canada, Canada u20 and BC’s u23 program athletes are staying match fit and playing at high levels of competition.

“We will be keeping a large squad of athletes for the duration of the season.  I do not believe we should eliminate anyone who demonstrates ambition and as such athletes will be welcome to continue to train with the program even if they are not selected for a match day 22.”

BC’s July preseason will include 2 fixtures against Durham University and a head to head trial match.

“I am pleased to announce Jeremy Sabell from the Vancouver rowing Club as Chair of Selection for this year’s program.  Jeremy is responsible for managing the depth chart and determining measurement data.  Input will be gathered on each athlete for each preseason game and this information will help guide our selection decisions.”

As the team heads towards its first CRC game against the Wolfpack technical and tactical preparations are moving well.  “We will be well coached this summer as we welcome Pat Kearney from the league winning Bayside Sharks and Chris May from the Castaway Wanderers to the coaching staff.  I am also pleased at the advisory roles taken up by Ian Hyde-Lay from CW and Tom Larisch from the Championship winning Capilanos.”

With the 3 other CRC programs well down the road in their preparations BC will be playing catch up.  Athlete ownership of the program will be a key contributor to success going forward.  “We couldn’t have a better man leading our recruitment.  Pat Riordan, Canada RWC Captain wants to see a strong BC program this year.  He is passionate about the program and the role that BC rugby needs to play in the national fabric.”

To compliment Pat’s dedication the BC team have called upon BC great Spence McTavish to act as a mentor for the program.
