New sponsorship to fund expanded Mini Rugby, U15 and U17 Provincial Teams, culminating in International Player and Coach Exchange Program

VANCOUVER: BC Rugby's newest partner - TrueBlue® Blueberry Juice - has allocated funding to expand opportunities for U15 and U17 player skill development and provide coaches and junior athletes with touring and international exchange program opportunities.

"TrueBlue Tackle the World™" will provide funding for three major pillars of support to the BC Rugby Union.

The first joint initiative between BC Rugby and TrueBlue saw hundreds of junior players flock to UBC's Wolfson Fields for the 2012 Year End TrueBlue Mini Rugby Jamboree on April 22nd. TrueBlue will now also allocate funds to aid BC Rugby in fielding Under-17 and Under-15 mens’ provincial teams and provide these players with touring opportunities.  This now ensures that every age grade from U14 to U19 males will be engaged in representative rugby. The third pillar of support will be an international development exchange program with a top southern hemisphere professional club or provincial union.

"The concept of ”TrueBlue Tackle the World” accentuates the importance for our youth to dream big and work hard to achieve their goals," said Ralph McRae, CEO of Leading Brands, Inc. "A goal of all rugby players and coaches is to tour and explore the world; to learn from and test oneself against the best. This drives the sport across the globe."

"TrueBlue wants to engage children at the entry level of rugby and see their development through to the highest levels of the game," explained Jeff Sauvé, BC Rugby CEO. "This sponsorship enables us to make a remarkable improvement in our player pathway. The partnership also allows us to strengthen existing programs as well as create three new offerings; all designed to concur with the purpose and function of existing BC Rugby clubs, programs and partnerships."

The particulars of the new aspects of the 'True Blue Tackle the World' program are outlined below:

1. TrueBlue BC Rugby Under-17 & Under-15 Provincial Teams:
A TrueBlue BC Rugby Under-17 men’s provincial team will tour this summer to California and competition will be provided for a True Blue BC Rugby Under-15 Boy’s squad.  The capacity for fielding provincial age grade teams has grown tremendously within British Columbia.  With the support of TrueBlue for the creation of two new cost effective programs there will be a boy’s / men’s provincial age grade program at every age from Under-14 to Under-19.  Tour details are currently being established and all information regarding trials and camps will be released in the coming months.

2. TrueBlue International Development Exchange Agreement:
With the support of TrueBlue, BC Rugby is securing an agreement for an annualized coach exchange program with a top southern hemisphere professional club and provincial union.  The agreement also provides the opportunity to send individuals from the pool of British Columbia’s top identified youth players.  Players will be immersed in an academy environment in a tier one rugby nation, and with a provincial union affiliated with a professional club.
