VANCOUVER - The 2012 Lower Mainland Age Grade spring competitions will wrap up on Sunday, April 29th. The Under-13 and Under-14 Boy's competitions will feature festival competition formats and the Under-16 men's teams will be competing in placement games.

The Under-14 Festival Cup and Plate competitions will both be held at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex with the home side and Capilano-1 competing for the Cup. The Cup Final for the U16 men will also feature Capilano-1 (5-1) away to top-seeded Burnaby Lake (5-1). It's been quite a year for Burnaby who have seen their numbers increasing rapidly in their junior programs.

"Most of our U14s have all moved up to together to the U16s and there has been a three year turnaround," said Burnaby's Youth Director of Rugby Giovanni Lam. "Our minis have almost tripled in the last three years and players are moving up through the junior teams like the U14s and are understanding the rugby culture. A lot of these players have also seen role models like Fuku Vikilani who have now played senior rugby and played for the Canadian U19 and U20 national teams this past year."

Burnaby's U16 team is currently coached by Fuku's father and former Tongan national team standout Tasi. The Vikilani's have had quite an impact on the club as Fuku's younger brother Taitusi will captain the U16s in the final on Sunday. Taitusi is also a recent grad of the BC Under-14 provincial team who went undefeated at the 2011 National Festival held at UBC in Vancouver this past August.

"We have some fantastic coaches at the club right now and things are going well for our junior programs," Lam added.  Special thanks should also go out to the Parks Board, Lam added, as Burnaby have required plenty of field space for the programs.

The U16 third place consolation playoff will feature the Vancouver Rowing Club (3-1) at home to Richmond RFC (3-2). In the 5th/6th playoff, Capilano-2 (0-3) is on the road to Ridge Meadows (1-4).

The U14 Festival will be at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex and the U13 Festival will take place at John Oliver Park in Delta. The U13s teams participating include Bayside, Surrey, Capilano and the Brit Lions.
