VANCOUVER, BC: After a series of meetings involving club officials and BC Rugby Board Members, the BC Rugby club league structures will be revamped for the 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.
As a result of the process, decisions regarding the Canadian Direct Insurance Men’s Premier League were made. As of September 2012, the men's Premier League schedule will include the following:
a. Eight team Canadian Direct Insurance Premier League;
b. A second team traveling with the top Premier side, who will compete in the Ceili’s Cup (Tier 1 First Division) competition.
c. A double round balanced schedule starting in September and ending in May.
d. A promotion-relegation model. The top team (points leader) at the completion of the regular season (ending April 21, 2012) competing in the Tier Two Okanagan Spring Brewery League One is promoted to the 2012/13 Canadian Direct Insurance Premier League. Subsequently, the team with the fewest points in the 2011/12 Canadian Direct Insurance Premier League will be relegated to the Tier Two competition in 2012/13, if the club eligible for promotion accepts (May 31st deadline).
e. A McKechnie Cup competition will take place in 2012/13, and that this competition should be a recognized pathway to the National programs.
NOTE: The current team eligible for promotion to the 2012/13 Premier League will be Bayside. Bayside has until May 31st to accept promotion.
