It was a wonderful Sunday morning of rugby for the CW girls, and invited guests from up-island (Comox/Courtenay) and Pennisula (Stelly’s High School). While the minis and age group boys played up at UVic, the girls took over the main pitch at Windsor for a morning of skills and a series of Sevens games.
For the games, the girls were separated into two teams (Canada and New Zealand) and the stage was set for some fun rugby. As always, the girls were enthusiastic and full of running and tackling.
The girls were ably led by their coaching team, Stephanie, Annie, Selina and Erin. Murk (Stelly’s coach and Ebb Tider) managed the games with a steady hand and kept the game flowing. His many years of rugby experience also contributed some valued coaching tips at the appropriate time.
After a two full games, the girls were tired and ready for some BBQ hot dogs. There were new friends made and they assembled under the posts for a season ending photograph to a very successful season.
Many a spectator were impressed with the skills demonstrated and one observer who has watched and photographed them over the season (Mr. Ron Willems) said that they were showing the skills of real rugby players.
The girls, parents and management staff would like to say a big CW thanks to the coaching staff and to our head coach, Marley Riordan. Her dedication to the team was fantastic. So much, that she coached a week ago only a few days before she gave birth to a new baby boy ! As always, a big thank-you to Ron Willems for photographing the action on Sunday and please take a moment to check out some of the action in the link below.
We look forward to seeing all the girls next season and we will be sending them out into the schools to spread the word on girls rugby and of course, the CW experience.
