Vancouver, BC: All five of the provincial age grade club rugby championships were claimed by Lower Mainland sides as the 2011 BC Rugby fall season came to a close this past weekend.

Each of the five champions had perfect records during the 2011 season. West Vancouver's Capilano RFC went undefeated en route to Under-19 and Under-17 men's titles. The U16 and U15 Boys championships were both claimed by South Surrey's Bayside Sharks RFC and the U18 Women's title went to Abbotsford RFC.

U19 MEN PROVINCIAL FINAL: Castaway Wanderers [5 - 46] Capilano
Capilano completed a perfect season on Saturday with a convincing 46-5 win over Vancouver Island champions Oak Bay Castaway Wanderers RFC. Led by their fearless captain Jordan Harvey, who also skippered the BC U18 provincial team to a national championship last summer, Capilano overpowered CW with seven tries. Harvey notched two tries and led the offence as the Capilano forwards won the battle in the trenches. Canadian U18 national sevens speedster Nathan Yanagiya recorded a hat trick of tries, with tallies also coming from Neil Courtney and Austin Karius. Caps fly half Zach Smith kicked four conversions and a penalty for 11 points. Capilano had gone 6-0 during the Lower Mainland regular season and defeated Abbotsford 47-8 in the regional final, earning the right to host the provincial championship.

U18 WOMEN PROVINCIAL FINAL: Bayside [7 - 34] Abbotsford
Abbotsford's U18 women went undefeated during the 2011 regular season, posting six straight victories in league play. Their league-best defence was especially impressive during the regular season, allowing just 4.84 points per game. In the semifinals Abby downed Richmond 42-10 and then ran out convincing winners with a 34-7 victory in the provincial final at home.

U17 MEN PROVINCIAL FINAL: Cowichan [8 - 43] Capilano RFC
Capilano clinched their third major trophy of the 2011 season on Sunday afternoon, when their U17 Men's team cruised past Cowichan by a score of 43-8. Capilano had gone 7-0 during the regular season and defeated the Bayside Sharks 26-22 in the Lower Mainland final. Caps scrum half Ryan Lam led all scorers in the provincial final, scoring three tries for a total of 15 points. Tries were also recorded by Marshall Fuller, Connor McRae, Evan Coleman and Jacob Cartwright. Caps standoff Tom Kanwischer kicked four conversions for 12 points.

U16 MEN PROVINCIAL FINAL: Bayside [15 - 12] Capilano RFC
The Bayside Sharks U16 Men made it two BC Championships in a row with a nail-biting 15 - 12 victory over the Capilanos U16s on November 27th at South Surrey Athletic Park. The same group of players had won the U15 provincial title during the 2010 season. In the 2011 U16 final, Bayside were up 15-0 before Capilano mounted a comeback just before half time. In the span of 15 minutes, Caps forwards Nicky Allen and Charlie Macdonald both went over for tries and Angus Carroll tacked on a conversion. The come back fell short however, as Bayside held on for the narrow win. The triumphant Sharks will now travel to Las Vegas next February to play in a three-day invitational tournament against age grade teams from across the United States.

U15 BOYS PROVINCIAL FINAL: Velox [0 - 47] Bayside
It was all one way traffic for the Bayside Sharks in the U15 Boys provincial final as the home squad recorded nine tries and held Vancouver Island's Velox Valhallians scoreless. Dominic Engel and Keenan Houde each recorded two tries for Bayside, with single tallies notched by Jesse Adams, Hayden Grant, Spencer Nicoll, Shane Joo and Nicholas Law. Grant kicked a conversion to round out the scoring. Bayside had gone 6-0 during the league season and edged Meraloma 15-12 in the Lower Mainland championship. Velox defeated the Castaway Wanderers in over time in a mid-week fixture to claim the Island championship, leaving the Valhallians with a quick turnaround before traveling to the Mainland for the championship final.
