An exciting initiative is taking place on Vancouver Island where Girls Rugby is on the move. This past Sunday, David Crossley and the Oak Bay CW program hosted the Inaugural Castaway Wanderers Rugby Jamboree. David's summary of the event is provided below…
Well it was a great day of rugby and camaraderie on this past Sunday for the Inaugural CW Girls Rugby Jamboree ! It was a great turnout with participation from CW girls, Campbell River Athletic Association girls, and Vancouver Rowers totalling over 25 girls.
The coaching team (Charlotte Haley, Lauren Nutt, Mimi Bice, Erin Young and Wendy Ravai) lead by Marley Riordan and Stephanie DeGoede coached the girls in real contact games and ran instructional drills.
Big thanks to our referee (my brother-in-law), Murk Toorenburgh, for his expert refereeing and coaching skills during the games.
In addition, my son's school leadership team put in stalwart service in preparing and serving the hot dogs and snacks to the hungry players (and parents).
Our club photographers have contributed some fantastic photos from the event which I have uploaded to a photo repository. I will be posting a full report on the CW website and with a election of the best photos.
Full listing of photos (200+) can be viewed and downloaded at the following site:

Full marks to Ron Willems for the majority of these photos. In addition, Craig White (Imogen's dad) took some nice shots.
Special thanks to the coaches and girls that travelled from up island and Vancouver for this event.
Future plans for the CW Girls team:
November 13 - Jamborees at Shawnigan or Brentwood College
November 20 - UBC jamboree in Vancouver
