Vancouver, BC: On Wednesday October 12th, BC Rugby piloted an Officials' Course for Mini Rugby Coaches at the Capilano Clubhouse in West Vancouver.
The three hour course, facilitated by Dave Pue (BC Rugby Referees Society), covered the following aspects:
1. The qualities of a good referee
2. Technical aspects of officiating
3. Role of the referee
4. Rules v Laws
5. Materiality
6. Advantage
7. Decision making
8. Safety
9. The key requirements of mini rugby - working with young people
10. The required behaviours, attitudes, skills and knowledge of an effective mini referee
The course was designed to provide Mini Rugby Coaches with more technical and contextual knowledge for working with young athletes. BC Rugby will be planning to offer the course to other Clubs and Regions offering Mini Rugby.
