Three BC squads advance to National Festival finals

Calgary, Alta: The 2011 National Festival semifinals wrapped on Saturday afternoon with three BC squads advancing to the championship finals. The BC U18 Men, BC U18 Women and BC-1 U16 Men will all compete in the gold medal finals tomorrow at Calgary Rugby Park.  

The BC U18 Men posted an impressive 85-5 win over Alberta to advance to the Gold Medal final on Sunday against Ontario. The U18 Women will also face off against Ontario-1 in tomorrow's championship game, after producing a 61-10 semifinal victory over Quebec. 

The BC-1 (Gold) and BC-2 (Blue) squads went head-to-head in the semis with the BC-1 side producing a 29-17 victory. BC-1 advances to the title match against Newfoundland with BC-2 set to play Ontario-2 for bronze.

Men's U16
BC-1 (Gold) has advanced to the gold medal final on Sunday versus Newfoundland after downing BC-2 (Blue) in a hard fought 29-17 semifinal contest. Wing Connor Mcrae scored a pair of first half tries to build a 19-5 BC-1 lead. 

In the second half, Harjun Gill added another try along with a late penalty from Guiseppe Du Toit for the win. The BC-2 team got second half scores from Jack Nyren  and flanker Kyle Bordnarchuck.

The game also featured twins Alex and Brandon Ho - playing flanker head to head on opposite sides of the ball.
