Calgary, Alta.: Over 100 players, coaches, and team staff are en route to Calgary set to represent British Columbia at the 2011 Rugby Canada National Championships.

BC will be entering teams in the Men's Under-18 and Women's Under-18 divisions, along with two squads in the Under-16 competition. The tournament kicks off on Wednesday, August 17th with the championship finals slated for Sunday afternoon.

Despite just three age categories this year, the tournament is set to be one of the largest in the six year history of the event. Over 700 athletes will be competing. As the event is a great showcase of upcoming talent, Rugby Canada selectors will be identifying talent for upcoming assemblies over the five days of competition.

For full schedules and updates on the tournament, visit the National Festival Championships website.

B.C Men's U-18 Team
2010 Finish: 2nd place (43-13 Gold Medal loss to Ontario)
2010 Round-Robin: 3-1 (2nd)
2011 Opponents: Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, PEI, Quebec, Saskatchewan

Head Coach: Jeff Williams
Assistant Coach: Rameses Langston
Manager: Shane Thompson
Therapist: Jessica Kenney

Coach's quotes - Jeff Williams:
"We have several senior players and our Captain Pat Kay (Cowichan RFC) is probably our most experienced player having just come off the Canada Under-20 program. What I find amazing about this squad is that we have nine players that are born in 1994. Offensively we are very gifted with a host of players that are able to score anywhere on the field. We have a very talented group that  are very well drilled, skilled and committed which can be credited to the coaching staff at our Provincial Regional Championships."

Coache's quotes - Stephen Rowell
"I am Looking forward to seeing the veterans from last year's BC Blue team step into the Gold team and add their experience. We are looking to finish in the top two in the round-robin.  The boys have had enough of practice and ready to play against some real opposition. Our senior players would be Harjun Gill, Marshall Fuller, and Guiseppe Du Toit who all played last year.  But we our fortunate to have four other BC Sevens Gold medal players.  Shane Thompson did a great job with them at the Western Canada Summer Games and we will be counting on their experience from the pressure of that competition to help us.  So far as Captain we will be rotating between a few players in the first two days."
