Vancouver, BC: This weekend sees club sides in the Adidas Premiership play out their final regular season games ahead of the postseason. Two weeks still remain in the Big Kahuna Division One and Langara Fishing Adventures Division Two, with teams still jockeying for playoff berths.

WEEKEND PREVIEW
– APRIL 16, 2011

Women’s Adidas Premiership
This Saturday, the province’s elite women’s club sides will play out their final regular season matches in the Adidas Premiership.

The weekend’s most crucial matchup sees the no. 2 Capilano (4-2-1) and the no. 3 Velox Valkyries (4-3) battling for the second seed and a home playoff berth. Led by an 18-point performance from the league’s top-scorer Andrea Burk, Capilano downed Velox 43-7 last weekend and leap-frogged the Valkyries in the standings. Capilano now boasts a two-point advantage over Velox heading into this week’s pivotal rematch.

Burnaby Lake (7-0) has already tied up the number one seed heading into Saturday’s tilt with no. 4 United (4-3). United are currently holding down the fourth and final playoff berth, however, and need a strong showing if they have any hopes of hosting a semifinal match on April 30th.

No. 5 Meraloma (2-3-2) will face off against the no. 6 Bayside Sharks (1-6) this week with neither side able to qualify for the postseason. Last weekend’s 14-8 loss to United proved costly for Meraloma and now sees them sitting five points shy of a playoff berth.

Saturday, April 16
Velox at Capilano (Klahanie Park) 11:30am
United at Burnaby Lake (Burnaby Lake Sports Complex) 11:30am
Bayside at Meraloma (Connaught Park) 11:30am

Big Kahuna Division I

Two weeks remain in the Big Kahuna Division One regular season but a possible preview of the 2011 final this Saturday sees no. 1 Abbotsford (5-1)  travel to no. 2 SFU (5-2). Saturday’s matchup sees Abbotsford’s league-best defence (10.5 ppg) do battle with SFU’s league-best offence (27.57 ppg). The two sides are currently sitting level with 20 points each in the standings.

In a match that could have a crucial impact in determining the third seed ahead of playoffs, no. 3 Brit Lions (4-3) are on the road to no. 4 Kamloops (4-3). United (5-1) are on the road to Cowichan (1-5) this week.
