The celebrations of life for Jan Curnow and Richard Evans have been scheduled for March 6th.
Jan's will be held at the Windsor Park Pavillion, the home pitch of the Oak Bay Castaway Wanderers at 1:00pm. Richard's will be held at 1:00pm at the Croation Cultural Centre - 3250 Commercial Drive, Vancouver.

RUGBY COMMUNITY MOURNS LOSS OF RICHARD EVANS
Richard Evans, a respected referee and colleague of the British
Columbia rugby community passed away in a boating accident on Sunday, February
6.
The accident occurred in New Zealand’s Tauranga Harbour, when Evans’ boat collided
with a buoy. Details are still being released on the incident.
Dave Pue, head of the BC Rugby Referees Society had this to
say about Evans, “Richard was an integral member of the Vancouver refereeing
community in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. He was one of the top referees of his era
and renowned for his management of the game as a ‘player’s referee’. After
leaving refereeing he stepped into the role of team manager for many touring
sides.”
REMEMBERING JAN CURNOW
Jan Curnow, a respected
member of the local rugby community and a member of the BC Rugby Hall of Fame,
passed away on Thursday evening.
After a successful playing
career in the United Kingdom and British Columbia, Jan went on to referee at
the club, sub-union, national and international level.
Jan refereed several International test matches as well as many BC Mckechnie
Cup and Provincial finals. His first major assignment was a match
between the New Zealand All Blacks and British Columbia’s senior men’s team in
1972.
Jan was a life member of
the VIRRS and BCRRS. In 2005, Jan was inducted into the BC Rugby Hall of Fame
as a ‘Builder’ for his contributions.
