The Games continued under clear skies and hot conditions at
both Rugby Parks
U17 Women:
The Women’s event began with Thompson Okanagan
defeating Fraser Valley 5-0 for the Island Team to take a commanding position
at the top of standings with Vancouver Island who defeated Vancouver-Squamish
20-5. Both squads continued their winning streaks until the final game of
the day. The Island took a 10-0 lead only to be clawed back in the second half
as Catie Ryan scored two late tries to tie the scores at 10-10. After its
opening loss of the morning, Fraser Valley chalked up three staringht wins to
stay in contention in the standings, while Vancouver-Squamish beat Fraser River
Delta 14-5 to cement a position in the Bronze Medal Game on Sunday. The
Delta team scored its first victory with a 14-5 win against Cariboo Coast in
its first game of the morning. Sunday starts with the last two rounds of the
second round robin and will determine the placement games for medals.
Individually, Natalie Teloris of the Fraser Valley leads the standings
with 10 tries and 52 points, flowed by Jess Nielson from Vancouver-Squamish
with 39 points and Sarah Gordon from the Valley with 38 points. Catie Ryan from
Thompson Okanagan finished the day strongly and sits on 7 tries, followed by
Ciara Malone from Vancouver-Squamish on six and Jasmine Doll and Jenna Post
from the Island on five each.
