Aside from being a festival of rugby for young British Columbia rugby players, the purpose of the Provincial Regional Championship (PRCs) is two-fold. The competition serves as the final selection venue for the BC Provincial Teams (Under 16, Under 17, Under 18 and Under 19) who compete at the National Championship Festival, Western Canada Summer Games and Canada Summer Games. The PRCs also serve as an introduction to representative level competition for many athletes.
Held annually in early July at the University of British Columbia's Wolfson Fields, the PRCs are a three-day display of the future of rugby in BC and Canada. The opportunity to represent one's region is an honour for young athletes who compete under the crest of their sub union, including the Cariboo Coast, Thompson Okanagan, Vancouver Island Rugby Union (North - Tsunami, South - Crimson Tide), Fraser Valley Rugby Union (Venom) and the Vancouver Rugby Union (Wave).
